Dear Xueqing Shan,
It's too bad that your classes start one month before GSoC is over.
However, Google's schedule is not absolutely strict when it comes to the
*start* times. Only the evaluation deadlines are strict (a miss is an
automatic fail).
So it is possible to shift the schedule forward by a couple of weeks.
Essentially you would have to familiarize yourself with the tool set
already in late May (starting even before the project is accepted), and get
right to work after acceptance. This way, you can gain 2 - 3 weeks at the
beginning. Your mid-term goal and final goals would likewise be a few weeks
earlier.
In your case the schedule difference is quite significant, but still
feasible if you are available from late May onward.

Dear Cyrille Artho,
Thank you so much for answering my questions in the mailing list.
Unfortunately, my classes begin on August 21, and I realized that I really
can't commit 40 hours a week to GSoC. Thank you again for your help and I
will keep looking for other opportunities to contribute to LyX.
Sincerely,
Xueqing Shan

Dear Xueqing Shan,
Google Summer of Code is meant to be full-time; so you should plan for
40 hours per week. If you have to start about one week later or finish
one week earlier due to exams, that's of course perfectly fine. (Please
let us know beforehand, though.)

Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Xueqing Shan. I am a rising sophomore in Vanderbilt
University
interested in participating in Google Summer of Code. I saw LyX's
projects
and I think I am capable of contributing to them.
I have taken CS101 (Introduction to Computer Science and Problem
Solving in
Java) and CS201 (Program Design, Data Structure and Problem Solving in
C++). I am particularly interested in following projects:
LyX support for bilingual (critical) text editions
LyX presentation mode
Improved XHTML export and ePub support
UI Improvements and non-linear writing enhancements.
Toolbar customization dialog
I have some general questions as to weekly time commitment and I would
greatly appreciate if someone taking charge of the program can give
me some
help in putting up an application.
Sincerely,
Xueqing Shan
