I don't have much time to support this development currently so let me
quote what I just wrote to Manan a minute ago:

There is only one commit:

So maybe as a first step you can frontport this commit to current
master. If you are motivated, you can first create a new branch for your
development from latest master and then apply this patch. Even if the
patch is quite old I don't think much has changed since that time.
There is a think plenty of work for you both so maybe you can work
together by sharing a lyx clone or a branch?
