Hi all,
[Liviu: I wanted to send the previous e-mail as reply-all but made a
mistake, so you get a duplicate with a few more lines; sorry.]

Congratulations on being accepted! I have been GSoC mentor in a different
project several times, and in my experience, the student selection process
is the most important phase.

LyX is not yet listed on GSoC's list of accepted organizations (110 out of
193 are currently shown); probably an extra registration step is needed.
Please check so prospective students can see us.

In the students you intend to accept, you want quality. Ideally, students
who have made a contribution before (such as a patch, or at least a couple
of e-mails/bug reports suggesting they can understand the code to some
extent). So it's a very good idea to contact students who submitted patches
before.

To be able to accept a number of students, you also want *quantity*. Google
generally approves a certain percentage of all applications. This means
that for each project you would like to carry out, you need several
applications; only then, there is a good chance to get the necessary number
of slots.

So if you still have contacts at universities, or through other ways,
please advertise this year's program as much as possible; your success
depends very much on that.

We can also accept a new student if we can see a potential during the
application phase; for example, the new student may study some code
pertaining to a project, and show (maybe through some proof-of-concept
patch) that he or she can produce working code in three months.

However, for the numbers, it is actually also good for us to have many
applications from unknown students who just write a couple of paragraphs in
the application form.
