Not as far as I know. It's a complex issue.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to include some kind of warning, and possibly a more complete explanation of what the situation is.

A Buffer's parent is the Buffer that immediately includes it. At least, that's the idea, though in fact a Buffer can be included more than once and in that case I think it's the first Buffer that includes it, though I'm not positive. The master is the top of this chain: the root of the tree, in the intended case, though in some cases, again, it isn't a tree, but a more complicated sort of directed graph. But it has to have some kind of root, or else we will have problems.
