Hi,

This is my first time writing to the list. I've noticed that the www.lyx.org <http://www.lyx.org> and wiki.lyx.org <http://wiki.lyx.org> websites are often down. I've done some searching on this list and the developers list and the most common response to reports of "the website is down" is: "It's back up now". I'm very curious why this happens. I don't know much at all about servers. Is it because of increased traffic? Is it because LyX does not get enough donations?

We recently moved to a new server. It seems to have been pretty reliable so far, though there have been a couple times when it just went silent, and it wasn't clear why. The other day, there was some problem on the server that I fixed, but I'm not sure exactly what it was, other than that there were bazillions of httpd processes eating all the server's CPU.

What's true is that LyX is community supported. It always will be. If people think the software stinks because sometimes the website is down, then I'm not sure there is much we can do.
