Dear all
This comes up from time to time and here's a question.

If LyX can 'timeout' and cancel a LaTeX compilation (see [1]), why
couldn't it 'cancel' any such process by the click of a button? There
is this very old bug report [2] and things have changed a lot since,
but the current nag is that when one inadvertently initiates the
compilation of a long-to-compile document and wants to abort the
compilation (for any other reason, for that matter), then trying to
close LyX will result in a pop-up informing that LyX cannot be closed
until the compilation finishes (or times out). Can that dialogue
feature a 'cancel' button that would activate the 'timeout' mechanism?
Am I missing something?

Regards
Liviu
