this was problem when "keep" feature was developed in toc. i just launched
user guide and can't reproduce your report (qt 4.7.2).
The "keep" button is greyed out for me with "Labels and References" open.
I see now what is happening, I think. I get the reset when the label on
which I click is not in the document that is currently open. So it'll
only happen with master-child setups.
