Hello Julien, Thank you very much, I tried your abstract module with the lyx two column settings rather than using the multicol package, the document now publishes how I intended it to be. Title, authors, and abstract across the page width; content in two columns with figure floats set 'Use default placement'. And voila the figures are nicely placed are more importantly they are all there!
