Paul Rubin and I have produced a patch that resolves some problems with
LyX's Case environment. It seems to work well, but uses enumitem to
resolve the mentioned problems. Does anyone have views about whether it
is OK to require enumitem for the Case environment?

I guess there's maybe one more question, namely, whether enumitem is
widely enough installed to require it here. Of course, the same question
would have arisen before.
