I've hoped the fundamentalist have disappeared from this list.
It's not fundamentalism, it's just very annoying to reply if you're not
allowed to use "Reply to all" and your mailing application doesn't offer
the option to "Reply to list". The previous version of Thunderbird
didn't have this option, and I just checked that GMail (the place where
out @lyx.org addresses are hosted) doesn't offer this option as well (by
default).
This would mean that I always would need to choose "Reply", remove the
address that is being replied to and to manually change this into the
mailing list's address. Besides that, people that are not subscribed to
the list will never get the answer. That's why other mailing lists
require you to use "Reply to all" and they will complain if you don't do
it. And thirdly, you need to fight constantly on the mailing list to
teach people to not to "Reply to all".
On the other hand, to me there are no downsides in using "Reply to all".
And there shouldn't be for you if you set up things properly.
