Let me pack up what I've already written and send it to the list for comment. I've got a (somewhat) working implementation which will write out footnotes in a special list inset, which you can place where you would like it in the document. And it works. But I need to figure out some code which is capable of dealing with chapter counters (for example Note 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, etc.) Cheers, Rob
