LyX understands Character '␣' (9251, 0x2423) OPEN BOX and translates
it to \textvisiblespace in the LaTeX source.
When I try to search/replace the ERT boxes via the Advanced search,
only the content (\spce) is replaced and I end up with the OPEN BOX
char in ERT. Is there a way to replace an ERT box with normal text? How?
quite challenging scenario for adv f&r: if you search with default
options, then ignore format is on and so you're not supposed to
really care about matching the "environment" (ERT), so basically
matching the contents only may be considered right. Though,
I tried and I end-up with *empty ERT boxes* (or containing a
single space), is this that you meant with "OPEN BOX" ?
Also, it tries to paste the little space inside the ERT box, ending
up with a paste operation that is ignored.
On the other hand, if you turn off ignore format, then this time
it will match the whole ERT environment and remove it and
correctly replace with the little space, but you'll miss
all the matches within bullet list items (e.g., first match), within
boldface text, etc. (however it will match all the instances within
tables).
One of those scenarios in which you'd like to say: search with format
awareness, but please ignore char styles and par styles (enhancement
request that I consider related to #4987).
