I've no idea about hunspell spell checking, I would've to try a build with
hunspell. I switched the package to enchant only some time ago. For the
thesaurus the default location does not work.

The Debian hunspell package currently places the dicts into 
 /usr/share/hunspell/
and ships a bunch of symlinks from
 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/

Same for the mythes (thesaurus from OO.o/LibreOffice) packages, the data
is in
 /usr/share/mythes/
and symlinks are in
 /usr/share/myspell/dicts/
