acting as the devils advocate, one good thing about the current release
model is that we have stable (i mean _STABLE_) 1.6.10 product for people
who look for solid application rather than new whistles and bells crashing
just around the corner.

this is impossible with 6 month release cycle. looking around there is
a habit in some projects to have some stable releases with longer
maintenance (linux kernel, ubuntu if we speak about something big).

we could, for example, have feature release as a short term maintenance
and format release for a long term maintenance.
