If I understand right, the application has two steps. First, we apply as a
project, then we recruit students and they apply.

For the first step, we would need project ideas and mentors who could
supervise. I would put forward the following:

1.) Improved XHTML export and ePub support. (See other email for a more
thorough discussion.)
2.) ODF/DOC/DOCX import library (perhaps developed jointly with KOffice)
3.) UI Improvements and non-linear writing enhancements. My outliner, section
folding, etc (which are mostly done, yay!), would fall under this. As would an
improved full-screen UI, perhaps something along the lines of what Scrivener
does? (Just some thoughts.)

There are probably dozens of other improvements that could be packaged into
projects. Also, I could offer mentoring support for the third project. We might
partner with KDE for the second?

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

Also, would it be worthwhile to hammer out a quick application. We've all
written grants before, and this surely couldn't be much worse ... (famous last
words, I know).

Thoughts?
