The problem is, that XeTeX, LuaTeX and supporting packgages (fontspec

Wouldn't it be better for the LyX project to wait until these moving

features as experimental?
we claim that (at least for luatex). where do you want to put it to be more
visible?

OK, I now see the "not as mature" claim in the User's Guide.
My problem was that I went to Document Settings > Fonts and didn't see
such claims. I changed the settings to use "non-TeX fonts" and didn't
see such claims. I ask LyX to produce output and didn't see such claims.
Yet when I try to produce output (XeTeX or LuaTeX) I get what looks like
LaTeX errors---the same error messages as reported by Mr. Lillard. With
LuaTeX, I get even more error messages regarding fonts.
I guess the XeTeX/LuaTeX support just needs more work.
One problem seems to be the Ligatures=TeX option, which is not supported
by older versions of fontspec, so perhaps a check on the installed
version of fontspec is in order.
Also, after setting to use "non-TeX fonts", the output "View DVI" is
still available, but I am thinking that it should not, and only "View
DVI (LuaTeX)" should be available.
