hi, little bit crazy idea, anyway.. its a just proper time of the day for it...
i found quite often in a need to compute some trivial (from pov of cpu) expression which usually ends up either in putting it to google calculator or more often in maxima session. input and sometimes even ouput representation is a pain to read once the fractions enter. i just checked that for all this simple stuff our maxima capabilities is working perfectly, while our equation editor is far above any *simple* calculatiors i have seen. for some reasonable usage only few things are needed actually: binding enter key for lfun math-extern maxima, not allowing to delete/leave math inset, killing all this menu/toolbar stuff around and simple calculator is born. almost for nothing. before forking lyx sources and keeping it as a separate hack, what would be your opinion to have, say "lyx -calculator-mode" where only one workarea with one displayed equation and the few contraints above would appear? of course, i dont mean it for 2.0 ;) pavel
