I agree with Pavel that encryption should be done after
embedding/packaging. Zip is of course the preferred portable format, not
tgz ;-)
By the wayn the zip program is already able to compress with a password.
IMHO this is enough, no need to add complexity of this level.
Now encrypted inset (branch inset) might be a desirable feature from a
collaboration point of view...
