\makebox cannot have more than one paragraph.
But do you have a test file showing what is going wrong?
No, but it's not a matter of more than one paragraph, necessarily. Can
you do a makebox with a list in LyX? If so, there will be a problem, I
think. Or even if the single paragraph is anything other than Plain Layout.
