i was proposing to have it coded _internally_ which means that nothing changes from the point of the stdinstes files or gui names. only the functions for reading and writing would need more code to add/strip the filename part. > Btw. do you have a starting point which routines are called by LyX when > switching documents via the tabbar? this wont help, because you can have multiple windows. pavel
