Sounds good. I'll try that next. 

Actually, I downloaded a fresh copy of trunk last night, and it's not finding 
the makefile, so can't even get to that part.

  $ ./configure
  [snipped a bunch of lines]
  config.status: error: cannot find input file: `Makefile.in'

It worked fine a week ago. Has anything changed?
