2. Softlink the cache dir somewhere else.
3. Use the -userdir flag when launching lyx.

This doesn't help. The user's problem is that he has a small quota on
disk space. Files written to the temp dir don't count towards the quota.
So unless you're proposing changing the user directory to /tmp/lyx/, ...
