Thanks for the link. I think I got it right then: LuaTex is a backend--an 
engine--and not a format per se. At the moment, the only high-level editing 
system taking advantage of LuaTeX is ConTeXt Mark IV, whose "format" would 
provide the information Steve was looking for.
