Dear LyX Developers,

I just updated my SVN copy of LyX and I have been playing with the new
background compilation of documents. This looks like it will be a
wonderful feature.

In the process of experimenting with it, I found a bizarre problem that
I wanted to call to your attention. I am receiving a bizarre error when
I try and compile multi-part documents with xetex (and in some cases
pdflatex). The document will appear to compile, but then the PDF viewer
won't be able to load it. No LaTeX errors appear (as happened using the
old compilation system). It simply fails silently.

If I load the "Progress monitoring dialog", the only error that it
provides is "Error previewing format: pdf4"

I have already checked the file handling for PDF4 (xetex), and it is
correctly set to okular. I tried previewing the file with Adobe
Acrobat, but that provides the same error.

If I remove all of the child files (with the exception of one), it no
longer gives this error. Or if I compile a document without child
documents, it will also successfully show the document.

I tried experiments with pdflatex and regular latex and was not able to
replicate the issue (though these documents were very short and there
might be a problem with length). I have not been able to determine any
other patterns that might help with locating the bug.

Also, the same file compiled without any issues last night (prior to
updating the source and recompiling). Please let me know if I can
provide any additional information.

Cheers,

Rob Oakes
