If we don't have LaTeX installed, then we won't get DVI as an export
option, because we lack a LaTeX-->DVI converter. But we still might

Oh, I see. I was concentrating on the fact that, if we don't have LaTeX, then export to DVI will not be available.

Now that I see the issue, I think this is easy enough to do. You're right about the outlines of the thing.

Is there a corresponding thing for DocBook, by the way?
