Why do your fear it would harm to have too many backport it? We have 6 new features in branch: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/NewInLyX16but the majority mathematicians and physicists who are working with matrices probably don't use SVN locking, reverse searching etc. Every feature has a certain target audience and therefore a new feature more or less doesn't harm nor would it be confusing.
