cannot type '@' in Math Mode

LyX developers-

I seem to have uncovered a weird little bug in Math Mode.  While most
punctuation can be entered without a problem, the '@' character is
simply ignored.  It doesn't matter whether I type it in regular math
mode or in math text mode; the keystroke is ignored.

I have worked around this so far by typing out "atsign" in the
equation and then running the exported LaTeX through a sed script, but
this obviously is non-optimal.
