This month's British magazine _Linux Format_ has an article on LyX in the "Tutorial" section. It's a quick intro to how to use LyX, with info on basic editing, math, citations, and a few other things. It's not so much a review, so there's not much by way of evaluation. But it's overall very positive. The author, John Hudson, is said to be a LyX user since 2000. Which goes back a ways.
