Stretching the horizontal or vertical dimension of a xy-pic digram is currently not possible in lyx, since stretching requires the @-character, that is interpreted by lyx as ending the XY-matrix-macro. Would it be possible to overcome that problem, in the next 1.6.x lyx release?
