Hi,

When editing the web pages you can (and it's good practice) to add a comment about the change. However, the information you place in the comment is in practice public so please don't put sensitive information in the comment.

Here's an example of something really stupid to put in a comment:

Changed the password to 'kasdfas' for the site.

No one has made such a big blunder. However, not so long ago one of the more experienced developers[*] did add something in a comment. What he added was in practice probably a minor issue in practice and it was done without malice. It is however an example of how easy it is to forget that the comments are in practice public information.

I won't give more details about what was in the comments to avoid drawing attention to the information in question.

If you do happen to place something in a comment that shouldn't be there, one "not so complicated" solution is as follows:

1. Edit the web page
2. Copy the markup of the web page
3. Delete the page (by replacing the markup with the text 'delete' and
   save).
4. Create the page once more (you must go to the exact URI, e.g.
        http://wiki.lyx.org/Web.SomePage?action=edit
5. Insert the previously pasted markup and save the changes.

Also note that although the history of a page is public, it's not really that easily seen. In fact, I think you may have to go and look for it in order to actually see them.

regards,
/Christian

[*] I've emailed him separately to make sure he now knows that the comments are to be considered public.
