1.6.3 - that is what came with the OS (10.4).
I can try to manually install a newer version.
Can I use the latest version (1.10.1)?
And then a "make dist" fails after a while with:

This one is strange.
Could be a consequence of the autogen-message (?):
"lib/doc/Makefile.am:246: variable `docfiles' not defined"
