Strange bug? : cannot insert "\column{}" in beamer.layout

Hello,
In beamer presentation class, I cannot insert "\column{}" from the menu-column. 
Strange is that there seems nothing wrong in the  "Style Colu,mn"  defined in 
beamer.layout, Is this a bug, or do I miss something?
