We have had others express interest in doing a BeOS port also.  We are
currently making the dialogs gui-independent and gradually trying to get
everything system independent as well.  I'm not sure what development
environment BeOS provides (is it POSIX-compliant? or provide a POSIX
layer?) but you should be able to start a port to the BeOS-GUI fairly
easily.  You will need some GNU tools though (autoconf, automake, libtool
for example).

Get a recent snapshot or prerelease and take a look at what's happening in
src/frontends/.

It might also make us more aware of multithreading issues since BeOS is
supposed to be "pervasively multithreaded".
