I've talked to Andrei, Rex etc and from a design point of view, we're ready to go live. So what else is missing before a release?

I've modified

(btw, it's easier to work with the wiki version, i.e.

   http://www.lyx.org/test/wiki/index.php/Main.NewWebsiteDevelopment

Anyway, I've used the toc to and restructured it... we can simply colour code the issues that we feel must be done before a release. Please have a look, so far I haven't really added any.

I've also put my name down for some of the issues that I'll look at.

Regarding the Download section, I think it is a bit too complex in the current state. Normally this is very a new user heads and it should IMHO contain short and to-the-point instructions on how to get LyX up and running. Based on this I think that the Download page should state under Mac OSX that a TeX installation is needed (preferably with a link to MacTeX). If the similar is made for Windows and Linux the Software requirements section (which is currently very vague) is redundant.
Further Subversion access should be moved to the Development page

This gives a quick list of what needs to be installed to get LyX with "batteries included" for a newcomer. As for the Additional software page I believe this can be moved into the wiki (or should that be named the wiki-wiki now ;-) since these are more advanced items that you need some more understanding of LyX to be able to use. Also the current info is a bit misleading. For example ImageMagick tools is listed as "required", but if a Mac user installs MacTeX they don't need to worry. Also Aspell is listed as "required" whereas in reality it is not.

Finally: A big thank you to all involved for all the efforts with the new site. It looks great!

I think those are good points, Anders. I took out the "Additional Software" link that I put in the sidebar, since it's linked to on the downloads page. As for the Mac-specific changes, maybe you or someone else familiar with Mac aspects can make those changes, since I'm not familiar with the Mac installation process.

I guess I will need a password for that. Could someone send me that or change the text to something like:

To run LyX on Mac OS X you will need to install TeX. MacTeX [http://www.tug.org/mactex/ ] contains everything you need.

Then install LyX for Mac OS X which is available here: 1.5.4- Universal. [http://lyx.cybermirror.org/bin/1.5.4/LyX-1.5.4-Mac-Universal.dmg ] Make sure that you run the LyX-installer provided in the disk image. See theLyX/Mac wiki page for further installation tips. [http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/Mac ]

Note that the wiki-link was outdated.
Bennett, is this OK?
