How would you tell "math stuff" from "text"?

Is it possible to internally save this information at copy-time (and at paste-time default to "text" if it comes from external)?

Personally, I often copy parts of formulas into the text (as inline math), which means copy -> create inset -> paste, and which could be reduced to copy->paste. I do not see a use for having something like "f_{\tilde{N}}(\tilde{x})" pasted as text, except in ERT of course.

Interaction with external application. Like cut&paste to plain text
editors when co-operating wirh people using .tex "natively", or to
applications that "understand" .tex like xfig...

I see. But does that conflict with how it is pasted _within_ LyX ?

Is this intended behavior, or may I file this as an enhancement request?

Intended behaviour.

But IMHO from a UI-design perspective not the best idea. Within LyX math should stay math. The beginner/average user should not get to see the underlying latex for a thing as simple as a formula.

Anyhow, I certainly do not want to 'argue' about anything. I only try to contribute by giving feedback about bugs or things that bother me. I am using LyX a lot these days (for math stuff), and I am so VERY grateful to all you!!! Even though I know Latex well enough, I could not imagine writing in plain latex anymore.

Thanks so much,
Konrad
