examples, and tex files before it creates the links. This is because
the LyX/Mac installer currently copies these files rather than
creating links, so that the attempt to create a link will currently
fail without first deleting. (LyX/Mac users have been warned not to
modify files in these directories because they will be replaced by
future installers.)

What is the status of these scripts now? What are the plan for the
installer?

In particular, is there still a problem for browsing in the
lyxdir/example and friends directories?

Almost nothing has changed since Jan. 3rd. I don't know how to integrate the two parts of this script into configure.py and the LyX launch routine, as you had suggested before -- both of which seem like the right thing to do.

The only other thought I had was to delete .lyxpipe* when launching LyX: at least on Mac, only one instance of an application is allowed to be running at a time, so this would seem a desirable feature. (The only catch would be if someone has two versions of LyX -- LyX-1.5.app and LyX-1.6.app -- and runs them simultaneously. I do that only for testing, but I don't know if it would cause problems for others.)

I'm attaching the most recent version of the script I have.
