There's some bugzilla items about that. Apparantly there is bug 1624. There you discuss whether LyX should auto-generate (hidden) labels for some content elements like sections and floats. But the discussion ended a year ago, so I just add some new thoughts: I would go one step further and rework also the cross-reference dialog as described in my last mail. A tree-like representation of the labels would ease the use of labels significantly I think. But you need labels for each section and/or float to retrieve the complete tree. Dominik
