Agreed; I would propose a fixed maximum width in terms of EMs
(similar to what
CSS allows, cf. http://kogs-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/~meine/
scripts),
thus the user gets his favorite font size, but not unreadably long
lines.
(Recall from typical TeX literature that there is an "optimal",
font-dependent
number of characters per line.)
