sort, it won't break it with sorting enabled in the sense of all environments
available and working in menu (i guess:). another thing is what it will do with

The problem is that I'm not sure the "default" environment will also
appear at the top of the list, and the sort routine seems to assume it
does. This probably wasn't a safe assumption anyway, actually, so it
might be that the default layout (or empty layout, depending) should be
picked out from the list and put at the start when all else is done. I'm
not sure.
If you create a footnote and move inside it, you should get the
LyXDefault case.
