Hi Sven, I would like to move the discussion on user-built binaries to the developer list. Sven has raised concerns about user-built binaries on some occasions, perhaps this can be further clarified. Are you generally concerned about this form of binaries by people who are not directly affiliated to the development team? Or do you merely object to a specific form of debian builds? What alternatives can be explored, in the absence of an "official" binaries for each and every distribution? What did you mean when you talked to Jean-Marc in July last year about diff.gz. (see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.devel/89367/focus=89442) I'm aware that installing binaries from *"unknown"* sources always presents a security issue. At present all that can be "known", is that someone from a specific email address sends an announcement to the lyx list about a new binary being available. This indeed is not very safe, yet with each day that passes (without someone complaining on the list about the binary) and with every new binary announced--from one an the same email address--it comes more and more "safe". Again, thank you for your valid concerns and raising the issues. I'm happy to hear any realistic (or perhaps less feasible) alternative! Cheers, Sam
