Sorry guys for my late response. Have been offline for a day. Also it
took extremely long, until my original post became visible at the
email-list, so I had almost forgotten about it...
Firstly, a short remark:
I have discovered that after deleting the file
".lyx/session", I could restart lyx. Funny enough, it startet correctly
in fullscreen. So the fullscreen-information alone was not what
prevented lyx from starting...

Secondly, an answer to Pavels question

> you havent answered my question about checkinstall.

I am really sorry, I have now seen that you posted several answers to my
questions. Somehow they appeared only with delay (in the mailing-list,
they are listed much earlier than messages that I had already noticed),
and in addition, I did not obtain a copy. You sent them only to the
list?
Anyway, thanks for the checkinstall-hint. I had figured out in the
meantime that this might be the reason. So last time I used it, I used
the option -d2 (debug-level 2), which however, has not changed too
much..
There would also be an option --strip, which, according to the manpage,
toggles the stripping of the binaries. Probably I should try this, but I
did not find any information about the default-value.

Is this the output you want?
~/.lyx-1.6.0svn$ ls -lh /usr/local/bin/lyx-1.6.0svn

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13M 2007-11-18 11:48 /usr/local/bin/lyx-1.6.0svn

Best, Sebastian
