Open a DOS prompt in the folder where you want your LyX user directory.
(This typically defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\<your login
id>\Application Data\lyx15.) From there, run
<path to LyX>\python\python.exe <path to LyX>\Resources\configure.py
and keep an eye on the output. It will tell you whether it finds LaTeX
and whether it finds certain key classes (such as article). Hopefully
LyX will start afterward. If you get the same error message, post the
contents of the DOS window to the user list.
