A mingw build of 1.5.3svn is as fast as the MSVC build. So, this seems
to be a problem related to the *nix version of Qt4. My Qt4/Cygwin is
a hybrid *nix/Win, so the problem must lie in the difference between
the *_unix.cpp and *_win.cpp Qt4 source files. Oh, my...
Notwithstanding this, 1.6 is much better than 1.5 on *nix.
