were created to avoid a full redraw when the cursor enters math and the red
corners are shown.

disappear, not when leaving the inset, but when leaving
the position neighbouring the inset?
Sure, the flag does not depend on a given cursor position, it will
trigger a (full) background redraw in the case of math.
