I think pavel also set up a git repository, if you would prefer trying git (in which also, merging branches should be easier than with svn). Yesterday afternoon I started to mirror with svk, the distributed svn. It also took several hours, which I didn't expect initially. This forced me to go for a beer instead of starting with LyX right away. Let's see, if it makes the work easier with svk now and was worth the wait.
