I guess I belong to the crowd that does not want to have exit or enter insets. When editing the text, I'd like right/left to just move among the characters of the text. This is of course completely different from the way it works in math-mode.
Maybe it'd make sense to talk about 'structured navigation' (math-mode) and 'text navigation'? (Or some terminology like that).
What you wrote about wanting to type e.g. \noun{peter} would mean that you use "math-mode"-style to write normal text. So maybe it's a matter of allowing that?
