I think the intention was to reduce the possibilities of alignment choices. 
So ...

this would limit the choices to Left and Block and disable Right and Centered. 
I cannot judge whether these tags make sense in the case where you removed 
them, but I think in principle this is very useful.

So if it's broken, we should rather fix it than remove it. Note that I'm 
talking out of the blue, however.
