Arrange one paragraph with 25 lines.
Type a string og W's in the next paragraph. The W's comes out with
great speed until this second paragraph needs to linewrap. The wrap
takes a "long" time, and then things continue at great speed. The linewrap
is noticeable, and lyx -dbg prints this at that point:

I know that but this behaves the same as in 1.4 and 1.5: When a paragraph dimension is changed we update the full screen. Are you sure that 1.6 is slower in that respect?
No. I report whatever problem I notice - I am not looking for
regressions in particular.

OK.

Trying to check this brought up a different problem. When doing file->new
in an "older" lyx, I seem to get an infinite loop where lyx and python
eats all the cpu, and the old lyx slowly consumes more and more
memory until it is killed by an assert.

Perhaps I am just asking for trouble here, the older lyx was not
compiled with a version suffix, so it tries to use the .lyx/ that 1.6svn uses.

Yep, you are asking for trouble ;-)

Abdel.
