Yes... now I see it too. It's the cursor that carries its own 'current
font' into the inset.

P.S. I'm not sure if this is the same problem that Neal is reporting --- I've only been talking about the GUI, I don't know how the latex output is affected by this... But it sounds to me like the things are probably connected...
I'm pretty sure of that.

The attached seems to fix it and has the merit of me sort of
understanding why it works.

Looks sensible plus it helps me understanding this stuff too!
