Hum, I guess I should clarify that I didn't meant you wasn't clever enough, I just meant of course that I know that that's also what you wanted to achieve with the wide() stuff. And I also think this was clever by the way; IIUC you were not ready to do the full rowpainter cleanup because the wide() patch was developed just before 1.4.0.
